Horsefly Vinegar Spray [Homemade Horse Fly Spray]

Horseflies hate white vinegar because it is more concentrated. It contains a high concentration of acetic acid which kills them. Vinegar produces a harsh smell that irritates and keeps horse flies away.

Vinegar kills horseflies because it burns their skin, irritates their eyes, and blocks their sense of smell instantly. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup of warm water. Then add 1/4 cup of dawn dish soap and spray it on horseflies to repel and kill them.

Mixing it with dish soap gives you the best results because it helps in trapping and drowning flies. They will not be able to fly since their wings will become sticky while the acetic acid chokes them.

Homemade horsefly spray with vinegar

This homemade vinegar spray can help in repelling horse flies both indoors and outdoors. It can also control their presence around the house or swimming pool. Use the following steps to make one at home:

  1. Get 3 cups of white vinegar
  2. Mix with 1 cup of warm water
  3. Spray this directly on the horse flies and watch them die
  4. This will also help in keeping them off if you spray it where they like to land

When spaying them, cover yourself with a black apron that is not shiny. This will prevent them from attacking you. Since humans exhale carbon dioxide while breathing, horseflies can be attracted to that. We also have blood on our skin that they need to survive.

When to use it

When trying to use white vinegar spray for horse flies, do this during the day. This is because those flies only hunt actively during the day and hide at night.

Horseflies like warm environments and they will never be out in the cold. They can also not see at night so they do not move a lot.

Spraying or setting their trap at night is a waste of time and your resources. If you know where they hide around your compound, you can spray vinegar directly on them when they are sleeping. This will kill them very fast.

Does vinegar repel horseflies?

Vinegar keeps horseflies away since it neutralizes the carbon dioxide smell that attracts them to their hosts. The strong scent from the vinegar is harsh and when they detect it, they will fly away and keep off.

We use dish soap mixed with white vinegar to trap and kill those flies. This helps when controlling an infestation. Horseflies can also chase and bite human beings. Unlike normal house flies, their bites are painful and can really hurt.

Horseflies have sharp mouths that they use to cut the skin open. They tend to be attracted to shiny surfaces. Spraying a mixture of vinegar will also stop their bites. The strong vinegar smell will keep them from landing on a prey’s body.
